Reminiscing Christmas Days…

This holiday season is another time for family reunion. Though I won’t be spending Christmas with my family, I could imagine the number of guests and relatives who will be visiting us… Must be heartwarming… as always!

When I was little, I used to ask “papasko/pamasko” (Christmas gifts) from my ninong and ninang (godparents). But now that I’ve grown up, I’m the one who is sending them gifts. :) I just missed the part where I have to dress up all day, accept gifts and eat lots…

Indeed, time has changed. I am not totally sad about it. Reminiscing things can’t just be helped. But what I am most thankful about is having a loving and caring family. I also have some sort of kind and favorite relatives. Haha. Even when it’s not Christmas, they find time to visit us and bring a little something for the kids. Since I am away from home, they always ask about me. And they always admire how a good person I am… how smart and responsible… and they say all those good things while staring at my acquired medals and certificates. Too bad, I don’t have trophies in my collection. Maybe if I excelled in sports, I’d probably get one or more. But I’m just good with academics. And that’s another thing to be grateful about because I’m here to where I am supposed to be. I am contented with my practical approach to life. I can celebrate Christmas on my own, with what I have…

Sunday Social Obligations

Another busy day and night had passed and I feel heavy and dizzy today. Plus my sore throat is giving me too much discomfort and pain. Blame it to too much sweets from yesterday’s events.

Anime - Beach and ice Cream

Sweet?

We attended Cael’s Christening at Mt. Carmel Church and the reception was held at Dad’s, West Ave. branch. As expected from me at the ultimate buffet, I feasted on desserts and different types of sweet treats. Cakes, ice creams, leche flan, muffins, chocolates, jellies, pastries and everything milky and sugary – I almost tried them all. Too bad, I didn’t bring my DSLR with me.

Pink Ice Cream

Next stop was at Tital Cel’s place. It was also Jace’s first birthday and they had an exclusive celebration at home. Once again, I indulged myself in another serving of ice cream. We also had pancit and barbecue but I wasn’t able to eat that much since I was still full… or should I say, bloated?

We played with the kids while watching Immortals. Jace was so cute especially when he saw his crush for real! Haha. And he was having a hard time choosing between 2ne1 and her. Such a jolly baby!

We had coffee by midnight and we found out that Tital Cel just turned 50! Yay! We greeted her cheerfully and more chit chats followed. We’re having a great time with our conversation until Daiki arrived from his day job. And we had fun even more because he kept telling crazy stories about how his day went. Lol.

As much as we wanted to stay, we had to go home and give our tired bodies a good rest. So that’s how our Sunday special went.

The Arturo Fuente Story

The Fuente family is known for making some of the world’s finest cigars for generations. Their handmade cigars are so popular for its Cameroon wrappers.

Arturo Fuente was born in Cuba where he learned how to cultivate prime tobacco and make handmade cigars. In 1906, he worked as cigar roller in Key West, Florida. He has a high reputation for making excellent cigars which eventually lead to the first release of their very own branded cigars.

I’ll Surely Miss His Mom…

Anime Girl Crying with Him

She's gone forever...

While she was sick, I didn’t cry. During her wake, I didn’t cry. But during the last stop at North Cemetery Chapel for the cremation, I did shed some tears. I cried not only for his loss but mine as well. My boyfriend’s mom died last November 15 and it’s sad to think and I’ll have no more fourth mom. Yes, indeed. She treated me as her real daughter. And I’m lucky to have several lovely mothers. First is my real mom, second is my Grandma (who’s also gone), third is my godmother (mom’s sisters, my aunt) and fourth is my bf’s mom whom I’ve met 4 years ago. And during our 4-year-and-still-counting relationship, his mother has been a good friend and mother to me… and even to my sister who occasionally dropped by at their place.

I cried as I reminisced all the good things she has done for me. And it was like a flash back in a movie… seeing ourselves in different happy scenes. Surely, I’ll miss her.

There’ll be lots of changes at home but she’ll always be remembered. To Tita Renee (or Mommy, since I’ve learned to call her that way ‘coz that is what she liked), thanks for everything. May you rest in peace… <3

Filipino Culture: Close Family Ties

When I was in primary school, I remember my teacher discussing how the Filipino culture of close family ties hinder the success of most families and some family members. For example, the parents will prefer staying in the country rather than going abroad to seek greener pasture. The eldest who’s already married will be kept under the same roof so as to stay with the parent and siblings. The youngest who’d like to pursue a course in the city, say Manila, was pledged to finish a degree in their province instead.

But these are all things in the past. As time goes by, Filipinos become more practical and reasonable. Parents work overseas without fear of leaving their children in their homelands. With them are their family photos in precious family photo frames, woven dreams and a strong belief that they can build a brighter future by working hard away from home. Our family should make us stronger and family members should help each other. Togetherness is not just demonstrated by staying at home with everyone but felt within the caring hearts. There will always be a bond that keeps Filipino family together.
