Basic Tips In Playing The Flute

Playing the flute can be a bit difficult as compared to learning how to play the guitar. Here are some tips when learning how to play a flute.

Practice on an Empty Bottle: Find a glass or plastic bottle and try to blow across the opening. Just make sure that the opening is not that big or else it will not produce any sound at all. Start by making a mm sound and then a p sound while pursing your lips. Keep in mind that you should be able to produce the “too” sound.

Produce A Sound Through Your Flute: What you have to do is to place the lip plate just under your lower lip. Purse your lips then and take a deep breath and blow as if you are saying the word “too”. This may take a while but it is important that you are patient when learning a flute. Try rolling the lip upward. You can look at yourself in front of the mirror so you will see if you are doing it right. There should be no pink showing. Then place the embouchure hole against your lips that are pressed together. What you do next is to roll the flute at least ninety degrees away so that the embouchure hole is now aligned with the ceiling.

Hold The Flute Properly: Hold the flute with your mouth placed on the lip plate while the body of the instrument is pointing on the right. Keep in mind that your left hand should be near the mouthpiece while facing you from the opposite side of the flute. Furthermore, your left thumb should be facing away from you and use it to balance your flute along with your left index muscle. Take note that the thumb will not be pressing any keys nor both thumbs be holding anything other than just one thumb.

With practice, you will be able to play the flute properly. It may take time but as long as you are determined in playing your exceptional gemeinhardt then you will eventually be successful.
